Many people daydream about the day they become engaged, whether they’re the person proposing or on the receiving end. Everyone has an idea of how they’d like it to go.
But sadly, life doesn’t always work out the way you had planned, which is something one woman found out the hard way, after her boyfriend’s proposal was a little disappointing to say the least.
The couple, who’ve been together almost seven years and share a one-year-old son, recently found themselves in an argument, which ended in the woman’s boyfriend throwing a ring box at her and yelling at her to open it.
“I didn’t because he was mad,” she explained on Reddit, adding that the next day he comes back to her with the ring box, just as she was comforting their son and about to step in the shower.
“He tells me to open this box, just randomly out of the f***ing blue. I do, and it’s empty. Anyway, he says ‘yep just an empty box’ and he flashes it open and closed a few times while I’m literally asking him what the point of this is, as I’m trying to sort out our son and also have a shower.”
The man then proceeded to get down on one knee, before getting back up again and bursting out laughing, telling his girlfriend, “enjoy your shower, you reckon it’s empty?”
By the time the woman got out the shower, her son was still upset, so she laid down on the bed and started nursing him.
“My partner lays back down with this ring box again, and says ’empty!’ And opens it. Okay, I’m kinda’ getting annoyed, I just want to feed our son, I’m soaking wet and haven’t even gotten dressed yet,” she continued.
“Anyway, he thinks it’s a fun game and throws the ring box at me and then it bounces off the bed onto the floor where it sits for a few seconds and he picks it up.”
As the woman lay there, with her son still screaming as he fed from her, the man got down on one knee and asked if she would marry him.
“There’s magically a ring in the box, wow, good stuff, magic man,” she said. “I’m sorry but could the timing be anymore f***ing worse.”
After about 15 minutes, the woman said yes, despite the fact she was busy trying to sooth their son and was extremely disappointed with the way in which her partner asked her.
The woman turned to Reddit to question whether others thought she was justified in feeling upset by the incident.
“Wow, he really went out of his way to make sure that there wouldn’t be any affection or intimacy,” one Reddit user commented.
Another added: “Are you sure you want to marry this man? He doesn’t sound like a good boyfriend and if he’s not a god boyfriend he’s sure as hell not a good husband.”
“What the f*** is going through his head?” a third questioned. “You are obviously not in a great position for a proposal. He’s not even trying to make it special and only doing it at times when its annoying. This is just straight up confusing.”
